Insurance training and career opportunity Programme - Yuvodaya

 Convenor: Ms. Anuradha Sarin

Students often look for training in specific fields that would enhance their employment prospects immediately after graduation. Towards this end, the college decided to be a part of the collaboration between MetLife and the University of Delhi for running an Add-on course - Insurance Training and Career Opportunity. Certified Faculty of MetLife conducts this course spread over nine weeks of study followed by one month of on-job training. The course ends with an evaluation and students performing well can hope to be placed in MetLife.

It is pertinent to mention here that a similar tie up with ICICI Bank for a course on ‘Foundations of Banking’ resulted in excellent training with most of the students being offered positions by the ICICI immediately after completion of the course.

Many initiatives are being run by the college in collaboration with business conglomerates for preparing students for the corporate world.  The college had been regularly sending students to MetLife, a behemoth in the insurance sector for summer training - one thing led to the other and we got into discussions for holding an 'add-on course' collaboratively. Simultaneously the University had also started exploring such possibilities - this exercise matured into a module named 'Yuvodaya' - a University of Delhi certified course on insurance being conducted in alliance with MetLife. The courseware designed around nine weeks of extensive classroom teaching by certified MetLife faculty is followed by four weeks of on-job-training. The curriculum envisions introducing students to the opportunities available in the insurance industry, its working principles and concepts of insurance, soft-skill development, corporate grooming, awareness about Insurance Act and IRDA Regulations, concept of ULIP and NAV besides overview of products like annuities and pension schemes. After completion of course, successful candidates could be offered positions by MetLife.

Looking at the response that the course has received since its inception, it is sure to become a great success. Acharya Narendra Dev College is the only college in the University offering this module.
