The Department of Biomedical Science of both ANDC and BCAS, University of Delhi jointly started a new add-on course in Bioinformatics and in-silico Drug Discovery for undergraduate and post-graduate students.
The primary aim of this course is to suit the fast track needs of bioinformatics and in-silico drug discovery divisions of pharmaceutical companies and research organizations. Keeping this in view, the course structure is formulated in consultation with the members of the course advisory committee consisting of eminent scientists from academia as well as industry. The first batch of the course commenced from July 2012 includes both lectures and hands-on sessions on biological databases, sequence and microarray analyses, phylogenetic analysis, importance of Bayesian statistics, molecular modeling and protein-drug docking.
The coordinators for this add-on course (Dr. Gagan Dhawan, ANDC and Dr. Uma Dhawan, BCAS) have been trained in bioinformatics and in-silico drug discovery from the University of Edinburgh, UK under University of Delhi Faculty Training Program (Sept. 2010- Sept. 2011). Additionally, speakers from various institutes along with other faculty members of the two colleges are involved.
The students are charged nominal fees (Rs. 4500/- for students from ANDC and BCAS and Rs. 5500/- for other students) for the course.
