The Department has a unique facility for research/projects on Optics, Photonics, Robotics and Embedded Systems. UG students working under ELITE, Innovative Projects, e-Yantra and SPIE avail the advanced facilities of this lab. InnoV8- The Embedded System and Robotics Lab was set up in 2014, under e-Yantra Lab Setup Initiative (eLSI) of IIT Bombay, also a part of this multi-faceted lab.
It is a state-of-the-art facility for contemporary research for developing gas sensors, new materials for the efficient harnessing of solar energy and water purification membranes, where Ph.D. as well as UG students pursuing their dissertation carry out their research work.
Though not part of their curriculum, motivated by the various research activities, students have been regularly attending summer training in the research laboratories within and outside the college. The summer fellowship scheme of the college, ELITE, provides the right platform for the students for introspection and recognize their potential in research or any other field. They can work on any idea under a teacher mentor. They are also paid a stipend of Rs. 2000/- during the two month long fellowship during the summer break. The following table gives a summary of the projects done at the Department under ELITE during the last six years:
S.No. | Year | No. of Students trained | No. of Projects |
1. | 2019 | >20 | 10 |
2. | 2018 | >15 | 7 |
3. | 2014-2017 | >50 | 7 |
The Department of Electronics works synchronously with one of the visions of the college, bringing research into the classroom. Active participation of students in research projects is promoted and one can see the UG students working in the research laboratories at all times. Due to active participation and timely tapping of the research potential of the undergraduate students, a number of research papers have been co-authored by the undergraduate students as well.
Due to the active involvement of the faculty members in research, the Department has got many extra-mural projects. The research project grants help in the development of state-of-the-art laboratories to perform cutting edge scientific research and provide recurring funds to carry out day to day research activities. This helps in the active involvement of the faculty in research at all times. Further, the college provides research contingency grant to each research laboratory to meet some of the recurring expenditures. A summary of the research projects carried out in the last few years is as under:
Type of Project (Funding Agency) | No. of Projects |
UGC funded Project | 01 |
Delhi University funded Innovation Projects | 06 |
DST funded Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) Projects | 04 |
Projects under ‘DBT STAR COLLEGE’ Scheme | 05 |
ELITE Summer Projects | 05 |
S.No. | Project Title | No. of students involved |
1. | Plant electro stimulation and data acquisition | 10 (5 from Electronics and 5 from Botany) |
2. | Assistive Gadgets for Visually Impaired Students | 2 |
3. | Mine Detection Drone | 2 |
4. | Development of nanostructured thin films | 10 (5 Electronics and 5 Physics) |
5. | Paradigm shift in material science-2D materials: familiarity, synthesis and application | 5 Students(5 Electronics) |
In recognition of the potential of the faculty members of the Electronics department to conduct independent research and for having the required research facilities, two teachers have been recognized as Ph.D. supervisors by the University of Delhi. Currently, six research scholars are carrying out doctoral programmes in the college.
The faculty members of the Department have been actively engaged in research. This can be gauged from the fact that the combined number of publications from them is more than 200 in peer reviewed national and international journals, conference proceedings etc. Please visit the teachers’ profiles to see the list of publications.
